How do I apply to play in one of the USGA championships?
Applying for a championship is relatively simple. There are two ways to do it: by mail or online. To Request an application for any championship, please call 908-234-2300. If you apply online, you can also check that you are registered by citing the Entrant Lookup feature.
Is there a place where all the USGA championships are listed for this year?
Yes, each year you can find a complete list of all the championships being conducted by clicking here. Rules to play in the championships can be found at the bottom of the page. Future championships can also be found by clicking here.
How do I get tickets to a championship?
The USGA offers tickets at a charge for select championships. All other championship tickets, many of which are free, are handled by host clubs. For the U.S. Open, active USGA Members can submit an application that will be included in a special Members random drawing. Remaining U.S. Open tickets are made available through a general public random drawing. For more information on the U.S. Open application process, click here.
What if I have applied to play in a championship and have a special request, like using a golf cart?
The USGA will evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, any request to use a cart in USGA championships or qualifying rounds due to a claimed disability. In order for the USGA to evaluate properly such requests, it is necessary to submit medical documentation setting forth the exact nature of the disability and how that disability prevents such player (or caddie) from walking during a stipulated round. In addition, players will have to submit information sufficient to enable the USGA to determine that providing a cart would not provide a player with an advantage over other players. There is a procedure to request a golf cart.
What are the eligibility rules for the Amateur Public Links and the Women’s Amateur Public Links?
Entries are open to amateur golfers who since Jan. 1 of the current year have been bona fide public course players. Players may not have held privileges of any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course. All of the interpretations of the rules of eligibility can be found on the last page of the application for the Amateur Public Links or the Women’s Amateur Public Links.
